Charitable Gift Annuities

Since 1907, Moody Bible Institute's Gift Annuity program has continuously partnered with donors that have funded annuities, providing them with lifetime income in exchange for a charitable gift that helps fund the ministries at Moody. The Institute has never missed an annuity payment in the 100 years of the program’s existence.

A Gift Annuity is an arrangement whereby a donor gives a sum of money or property to Moody Bible Institute and receives a fixed, lifetime income from Moody. A single-life annuity pays income to one individual throughout his or her lifetime. A two-life annuity pays income for the life of the annuitant and then continues payments to a second named annuitant. Happy Retired CoupleThe donor receives an immediate income tax deduction in the year the gift annuity is funded. The Gift Annuity rate is fixed providing annual income including a part of the income that is tax-free.

The Gift Annuity rate is a fixed percentage providing annual payments of a particular determined amount. The amount will not vary and is not dependent on the income earned in a particular trust or fund. This feature may be particularly attractive to donors age 65 and over. For these donors, the annuity rates compare favorably to CD’s and other fixed income investments. In contrast, a younger donor may prefer the Deferred Gift annuity. Deferred annuities allow the donor to make a gift and defer the income to start at a later date. In this case, the deferred annuitant receives an income tax deduction when the annuity is funded. Annuity rates are much higher for Deferred Gift Annuities making them an excellent retirement supplement.

When a Gift Annuity is funded, Moody Bible Institute accountants calculate the reserve portion necessary to maintain payments for the remainder of the annuitant’s lifetime(s). The reserve portion is set aside within a conservatively invested Annuity Fund managed by professional fund managers. A small calculated amount of the principal that funds a Gift Annuity is used to immediately assist us in providing for the ministries of the Moody Bible Institute. After the Annuitant passes away (and the Joint Annuitant or Survivor Annuitant if applicable), any remaining reserve portion applicable within the Annuity Fund will further assist in providing for the ministries of Moody Bible Institute.
