The Moody community is mourning the death of freshman, Micah Stinchfield, who died on Saturday, January 26, in a swimming pool-related accident at the Solheim Center, Moody Bible Institute's athletic facility on the Chicago campus.
"Moments like this in the life of our community are extremely difficult and unsettling," said Tim Arens, Dean of Students, in an email to students on Sunday. "They call us to draw on the promises of faith about which we study and hold to on a daily basis. When these things have happened in the past, I have found God to be faithful and true to His Word. That is my prayer for us as we face this loss as a community."
Micah was working toward a degree in music and was a member of Moody's Symphonic Band. He came to Moody from Grand Rapids, Minn.
"This loss of the life of a gifted student whose desire was to serve the Lord comes as a shock to all of us," said Moody President, Dr. Paul Nyquist. "Our hearts deeply grieve with the Stinchfield family and those who knew and loved Micah. We call upon our God to bring comfort to this family and to our community as we grapple with such a devastating loss."
Updates will be provided as they become available.
