Dr. Gary Chapman, New York Times bestselling author of The Five Love Languages, was the guest speaker for two events at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. on November 7, 2008.
Chapman spoke at a prayer breakfast that included high-ranking officers and executive civilians who regularly meet for prayer and Bible study. He challenged them with a message based on his book Anger: Handling a Powerful Emotion in a Healthy Way.
Chapman also spoke to a group of enlisted military personnel and civilian employees. He addressed the group with a message from his new book, Love as a Way of Life.
After speaking at the Pentagon, Chapman visited the Walter Reed Medical Center’s Mologne House, to meet with U.S. soldiers who were wounded in war. Many are amputees who are receiving extensive therapy and will reside at the facility for one to two years.
Chapman and his team were given permission to set up a book table in the lobby of the Mologne House, and to greet soldiers who came by to meet him. He spent a few minutes with each resident, listening to their stories, encouraging them, and thanking them for serving our country, and he gave each one a free book. Many of the soldiers expressed heartfelt gratitude for the time he spent with them.
During the visit, the Chapman team recorded interviews with several wounded men, which will be aired on Chapman’s radio program, Building Relationships, during special Memorial Day and Fourth of July broadcasts.
