On February 3, 2009, Dr. Elizabeth Lightbody, professor of World Missions and Evangelism, received the 2009 Faculty Citation Award. The award was presented to Lightbody by Hugo Perez, president of the Alumni Board, during the Tuesday morning session of Moody’s annual Founder’s Week Conference.Dr. Elizabeth Lightbody

Each year, the Alumni Association honors a professor from among the dedicated members of the faculty for their distinguished service to Moody’s students.  Lightbody, who began teaching at Moody in 1990, is most known for her passion for missions and strong desire to develop student’s experiences on the field. This is evident through her many trips overseas with students to countries such as Ethiopia, Africa, China and Pakistan.

“Dr. Lightbody’s regular and continued practice of taking students on short and long-term trips sets her apart as a ministry practitioner,” said Dr. Thomas Cornman, Vice President and Dean, Undergraduate School. “Many of our students return to thank her for solidifying their long-term ministry goals through her teaching both in the classroom and abroad.” A high level of respect is also reserved for Dr. Lightbody on Moody’s campus. She has received a Faculty Endowment Travel Fund from the Alumni Department, as well as an invitation to serve on the Presidential Search Committee, which will assist in selecting Moody’s next president.

“In addition to the high esteem with which she’s viewed on campus, over and over again students remark about her passion for missions,” says Alumni Association Executive Director, Walter White. “It is a special honor to grant this award to Dr. Lightbody because she is not only a distinguished professor, but an alumnus of the Moody Bible Institute (Class of ’63).” Lightbody also holds a master’s degree from Michigan State University and a doctorate from Asia Graduate School of Theology, Philippines. She served with SEND International as a missionary in the Philippines for 23 years specializing in areas of higher education and church planting. She is also a member of the Evangelical Missiological Society.
