On Friday, May 1, college students from the Chicagoland area will unite in prayer on Moody’s campus from 7 to 10 p.m. A full band comprised of Moody students and members of area churches such as Chicago Tabernacle will lead worship sets, and Moody student Chello Ambrister will share spoken word poetry. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in prayer points focusing on confession of sin, unity and prayer for individual campuses represented at the event.
The Concert of Prayer was created three years ago as a partnership between students at Moody, Wheaton College and North Park University who connected based on their strong desire for revival among college students through prayer. “Through history, we can see that college students have led the way in revival,” said one of the event’s planners, Kathleen Chlasta. “We’re praying for an awakening of college campuses and that this concert of prayer will unify college students in Chicago.”
Chlasta, a sophomore Bible major, joined the Concert of Prayer planning team after one of the founders, Sammie Weber, asked her to help continue and share their vision. Weber, a 2005 Moody graduate, now serves as a missionary in Cameroon.
Ben Struss, a freshman International Ministries major, is also co-coordinating the event with Chlasta, as well as the student organization Student Missions Fellowship (SMF). SMF president Kjierstin Rehn believes the Concert of Prayer “fits with the vision of SMF,” and hopes it will be an encouragement for other Christians at colleges all over the city.
