Calling All Men

Last year, Kyle Tennant discovered there were at least five student-initiated women’s groups on campus, but none for men. As a result, he and others pioneered The Calling, a student-led group to help male students develop a biblical and realistic view of manhood.

“We believe there are many guys on this campus who are desperately trying to be men, but don’t know how,” said Tennant. “We want to come alongside them and address the issues facing this generation.”

The Calling’s vision is to create both small-group and assembly events that focus on real-life issues men experience. The group’s first assembly last fall featured Bryan Litfin, associate professor of Theology, who spoke on “The Agony of Competition.” More than 100 men attended the event. The group followed with a session focusing on “Not What Women Want, But What Women Deserve,” with Pam MacRae, assistant professor of Pastoral Studies. The final session was April 28, led by Michael Boyle, assistant professor of Pastoral Studies .

As next year’s president, Tennant, along with The Calling’s leadership team, plans to utilize the expertise and knowledge of more leaders at Moody to equip the next generation of Moody men.

“We’ve received good feedback from Moody leadership regarding our first year,” said Tennant. “Next year, we hope to expand our presence on campus and develop a life-on-life coaching program where we do life together.”
