Only one well-known D.L. Moody recording exists, which is a minute-and-a-half reading of the Beatitudes. However, on Sunday, July 5, a digitally-restored version of a second reading begins a 16-week series on Moody Presents titled “The Hall of Presidents.”
The two-minute recording arrived on Moody’s campus in 1956, but because restoration was needed the audio was archived. It starts with D.L. Moody’s strong and booming voice reading the words of Psalm 91: He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'
Listeners will also hear D.L. Moody’s Beatitudes recording during the series, as well as a dramatic reading of his “Fire Sermon” preached at the 1893 World’s Fair. “It’s every bit as applicable today,” said Chris Segard, Moody Radio’s department manager of Production Services
and the Moody Presents producer. “We have a perfect transcript and were able to reenact the ‘Fire Sermon’ with an actor on the stage of Torrey-Gray auditorium.”
Following D.L. Moody in the series’ line-up are the other men who shaped Moody Bible Institute—R.A. Torrey, James Gray, William Houghton, William Culbertson, George Sweeting, Joseph Stowell and Michael Easley. Each sermon strategically moves closer to the series’ culmination—Moody Presents’ first message with ninth president Dr. Paul Nyquist, on October 25, which follows his official inauguration on October 23. After the series’ completion, the program will air additional messages from Dr. Nyquist’s bi-monthly sermons in President’s Chapel.
Listeners who are not able to tune in during the regular Moody Presents time slot can order the series. For a complete schedule, please visit the
