Uganda’s First Lady at Moody

On Wednesday, September 9, administrators, students and staff of Moody Bible Institute welcomed the First Lady of Uganda, Mrs. Janet Museveni, to the Chicago First Lady of Uganda, Mrs. Janet Musevenicampus with an intimate luncheon in the Northfield Room. After morning interviews with Moody Radio's Prime Time America, Midday Connection, and This is the Day, Museveni greeted luncheon guests with a warm hello.

Moody’s Chief Operating Officer Ed Cannon opened the luncheon with a greeting and introduced various guests, including Vicky Wauterlek, the First Lady’s host while in Chicago and founder of Hands of Hope; Elizabeth Lightbody, Moody professor of World Missions and Evangelism; Pam MacRae, Moody assistant professor of Pastoral Studies; and students from Uganda, as well as other Moody students with ties to the country. 

Dr. Paul Nyquist, Moody's president, prayed for the meal. At the conclusion of the main course, Museveni came to the podium and addressed the group. She spoke First Lady of Uganda, Mrs. Janet Musevini with Moody studentsof the social and economic plight of the people of Uganda but did so with an expectancy and hope for the future. 

In spring 2009, Professor MacRae and eight Moody students raised $12,000 through a partnership with Hands of Hope, and hand-delivered the funds to Museveni for the purpose of building a well in Ruhama, Uganda, where she holds a parliamentary seat.

Museveni was in the United States for a visit to the United Nations.
