The journey of Moody Bible Institute–Spokane (MBI–Spokane) took a leap forward on October 5, 2009 when the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board granted permission for the campus to offer five new degree programs, bringing their total degree offerings to eight.
”These new degree offerings add a breadth to our academic programs which will enable more of our existing students to pursue their goals here, and will provide prospective students with a wider range of options,” said Jack Lewis, associate dean of faculty at MBI–Spokane.
Moody first landed in Spokane in 1993 when Moody Distance Learning began offering classes in the Regional Classroom setting under the name Moody Northwest. In 2003, Moody moved its aviation program from Elizabethton, Tenn. to Felts Field in Spokane. It quickly became clear that the Spokane campus had a lot of potential for growth, and with it serving as the hub of the aviation program, they knew it wouldn’t be long until interest in this northwestern campus would grow.
Three years later, in 2006, the campus was renamed Moody Bible Institute–Spokane and moved completely into the undergraduate division of Moody, no longer offering the regional classroom experience. The campus has experienced significant growth since then: in 2007 the incoming class numbered 68; in 2008 it was 149; and in 2009 it was 216.
The five new degree programs that will be offered on the Spokane campus include Bachelor of Arts in Bible (Bible Studies); Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Exposition, Interdisciplinary; Bachelor of Arts in International Ministries; Bachelor of Arts in International Ministries, Interdisciplinary; Bachelor of Arts in Youth Ministry; and Bachelor of Arts in Youth Ministry, Interdisciplinary. These new programs are being added to the existing programs, which are Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies, Associate in Biblical Studies and Bachelor of Science in Missionary Aviation Technology.
