The City of Chicago and the Active Transportation Alliance sponsored Bike to Work Week from June 14–18, and 26 Moody Bible Institute employees participated in the challenge to bike instead of drive to work at least once during the week. Employee participation has increased slightly each year and, for the third consecutive year, Moody won the university division for organizations with 500 or more employees.

“It is very encouraging to take the top honor in the university division once again. We hope all employees take advantage of bike commuting because of the cost savings, exercise benefits, positive impacts on the environment and relationship-building opportunities,” said Oakley Smith, custodial administrator and Bike to Work Week liaison.

In addition to participating in the city-wide event, employees were also encouraged to enjoy a number of related in-house events, including a safety/mechanical workshop, informational display in the cafeteria and prize drawing for participants.

“I enjoy riding to work because I am able to fit exercise into my day, while taking marginally more time than it would be to commute by train,” said Ben Dallmann, Education Technology Services service desk administrator. “I like the fact that I can clear my head on the ride home after a busy day of work. My favorite part is riding to work with other bike commuters I have met. We have a great time talking as we ride through the city and sprint when we hit the trail on Lake Michigan.”
