At the Association for Christians in Student Development’s (ACSD) annual conference in June, Dr. Timothy Arens, dean of students at Moody Bible Institute, was awarded the Don L. Boender Award for distinguished service. This award recognizes professionals with more than 10 years of service who have made significant contributions to the field of student development.
“The entire Moody family is very proud of Tim’s accomplishment and is blessed to have him lead our student development team,” said Dr. Tom Shaw, vice president of student services. “Both his love for Christ and for college students are evident in how he has related to and cared for our students during his dedicated tenure with Moody.”
Known as “Dean” by most students, Dr. Arens began his Moody career more than 25 years ago as director of residence life. In his current role, he oversees the Residence Life, Student Programs, Food Service, Health Service and Counseling Service departments for undergraduate students on Moody’s Chicago campus as well as Distance Learning and Moody Theological Seminary students. Dr. Arens has also led sessions at previous ACSD annual conferences, served on its board and is regarded as a credible resource on industry issues.
“For many years, my teams and I have looked to ACSD for professional development and a community of like-minded professionals seeking to serve Christ on our campuses,” said Dr. Arens. “I am incredibly humbled and honored to be recognized by such an esteemed group of my peers. It also serves as a confirmation to me that my work with students is an important and worthwhile endeavor.”
Dr. Arens received his M.A. from Ball State University and Ed.D. from Azusa Pacific University, where he studied college student personnel and higher education.
